Corolla G6

Corolla G6 TRD Project

Complete transformation

The goal of this project is to design a racing car starting from a classic base. The chosen car is a 2001 TOYOTA Corolla G6, a car famous for its victories in the world of rallying. In addition, TOYOTA is recognized in various motorsport disciplines such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans but also with its legendary cars such as the SUPRA, CELICA, MR2, the AE86 and even today with the new Yaris GR. All these cars marked their eras and were assigned much sportier TRD (Toyota Racing Development) versions with the Japanese precision that the automotive world knows well.

This corolla 1.6 VVTI with a 6-speed gearbox is the ideal base for this project. Its chassis and its design make it the perfect car for the realization of a compact sports car in street and track version.

The style

Before talking about engine, performance and other technical constraints, being on an existing base, the work begins with the style of the car. Obviously the goal is to keep the lines of the car but to make it sportier. This is why wider fenders inspired by the rally model will take place. Thus wider wheels can be installed and will increase grip. Bigger rims will provide more space for a big brake kit. And the center of gravity will be lowered to improve the stability of the car.

Start modeling

The car was modeled in 3D to real dimensions. The exterior modifications are very subtle. In addition to the wide rally fenders readapted to the phase 2 model of the Corolla E11, the front end has received modifications. The original G grille will be retained as well as the front blade and the style of the bumper. The bumper will be widened to fit the wide fenders. An Angel eyes kit will be created and the indicators will be smoothed with a US kit. Subtle modifications, giving more modernity to the car.

Advancement

Removal of door moldings bringing a smoother style. For the rear, a simple TTE-style spoiler, the wiper in the lying position, the lightly smoked lights and the bumper from the WRC kit offering space for the TRD AE111 exhaust outlet. An exhaust that will allow the exhaust gas from the V6 2GR engine, which will take place under the hood of this project, to be evacuated without problem. This Toyota V6 will provide ideal torque and power for this small sports car. Mounted in 4WD system with a rear axle of Celica GT4 idem of that of rally, the power will be distributed on the 4 wheels of the Corolla. Will remain a reinforcement of the chassis, a sober but effective interior and efficient braking.

double sided car

The particularity of this project is to be able to decline it in a so-called "street" version, discreet but efficient; and a more radical version inspired by the "STANCE CAR" steeper, lower and above all designed for circuits.
